Have you chanced upon the Roller Coasters masquarading as city buses in Delhi? They are competition loving buses which race, overtake from left, appear from nowhere and so on. They take sophisticated left and right turns that would give you the feeling of escaping earth's gravity and twisting intestines (Remember 11.2 km/s?!). I even fear that if the word spreads in F1 circuit, a Lewis Hamilton or a Felipe Massa might consider quitting their F1 careers with considerable shame. Rumours are that the Indian Airforce is considering hiring fighter pilots from the bus drivers in Delhi to handle their supersonic beauties. They are believed to have almost done so, but the Chennai Auto Drivers staked claim to the same positions. In fact, they are even more battle ready, prepared even for hand to hand combat !
Long live mass transport!

My observations in Hyderabad-
There're say 6 buses supposed to ply between Kondapur and Secunderabad every 5 mins. What actually happens is this- The drivers would team up at the depo, have a nice chat for 30 mins and leave all at once, back to back. So at times you'll see 5-6 buses within few mins or else wait for next thirty mins...

Why don't they regulate buses at the depot, I don't understand. Get them to sign a time sheet, and monitor entry and exit from the depot. Involve passengers - ask people to call or text a number to see which routes are the most passenger-unfriendly..surely, the authorities can do all this? :(

I would like to benchmark the M60's speed against the speed of my wifi connection.

Maybe we have the same ISP? ;)

Dude! I take the M96 e-v-e-r-y day....it's my daily commute to get from east to west and then I have to hop on the blue line at CPW. I was so ashamed when I saw the pokey awards and unlike you who wants to nominate the M60 (oh, i've fallen for the old 'let me save $28 trick too", i learned quick) I want to protest! I have taken the M86 too and it is waaaaaaaay worse. It is the longer bus and it snakes around so slowly I often thought it would leave the back half of the bus behind.

Chanced upon your blog and now will read more about a fellow Manhattanite's troubles!

That's funny! I never expected someone to actually defend the M86 :)

No longer a Manhattanite (as the gardening posts show) but don't let that stop you. I'm sure you'll enjoy the archives.
