This post still has the power to chill- I didn't notice the original publish date and comments were from 2007.
You and your family were fortunate indeed to have escaped the fate of those countless victims then and still being affected now so many years after this tragedy.

Hmmm....being a bhopali i can relate to it...i remember that dark night....that would just not end.
Sometimes, when u cant say whatever happens, happens for good, u say it was just something that was meant to happen. sometimes i think....some people left earth, earlier that night. we'll join them later. it was some adventurous night that has reserved its place in our diaries. much like the gas chambers of germans for jews.

I remember the year too. My aunt and her family lived in Bhopal at that time. So did my best friend who'd moved there just a few years back. I remember coming back from school and my mom telling me this had happened. In those days STD calls were very difficult to make..but somehow we made them...or maybe used telegrams to find out if our family/friends were safe...
Years later I read the book,"Five Past Midnight in Bhopal" and only then did the real horrors of that incident hit me.
And now I hear Dow Chemicals is coming back to India....

Well-written. I was living in Kota, Rajasthan (near MP border) when we heard about it. Too young at that time to make heads-or-tails of the tragedy.
<a href="http://www.bhopal.org/sambhavnaclinic.html" rel="nofollow">Sambhavna Clinic</a> is working even today to treat the Bhopal survivors.

Lekhni, I had the hair on my arms standing up as I read your post. Never before have I heard about this tragedy in first person account with no media frenzy. I truly feel for those who suffered that tragedy and for those who continue to discover things about themselves that would go back to the times when they lived in Bhopal. Exceptional post. Courage and Peace.

[...] Lekhni recounts her experience from the doomed morning on 3rd December, 1984 at Bhopal: I still remember the cold winter morning, foggy like any other. We lived in the suburbs of Bhopal, less than ten miles from the old city, where the Union Carbide factory was. Ten miles is not much of a distance. But on that night, it was enough to spare us.
